Years ago, I observed a friend trying to persuade her little boy to go to sleep. This was late in the evening and a group of us were all going out for dinner. Her son was having none of it and kept asking why, why, why he had to retire. Her answer? "Because I said so and I'm the parent," after which she scooped him up, climbed the stairs, and the rest is history. It was as good a reason as any. And remember that you don't always need a reason for what you do -- especially when it comes to things like hooking these wear-with-everything hoops of oxidized silver and 22k matte gold hoops in your lobes. And not just because I said so.
